Barack on the GOP slime attack: 'They bring a knife, we bring a gun'

'Obambi' may be the most inaccurate political nickname of all time. This is one tough mofo. I love the way the Repubs are whining about gun control in response to this.

I thought Kerry's team tried the same quick response strategy and that they really did a pretty good job of it until the Swiftboat thing. Then they were out-gunned by Bush's rich buddies and became like a deer in the headlights.
McCain's public record of mistakes, wrong predictions, flip flops, and extreme right positions will make it much easier to respond. Bush in '04 was untouchable because he was The Allegedly Popular War President Coddled by the Media lest They be Blamed for Being Liberal.
Of course, Obama's a 100 times better candidate than Kerry too. If oratory is the only criterion, he is 100,000 times better than Kerry.

Wow, Tess -- you disapprove of something Obama said? That's a surprise (sarcasm alert).
Based on your comments here and elsewhere, I'd say the chances of his winning you over are somewhere between zilch and not bloody likely.
As for me? I'm extremely happy to see that he's not going to roll over and allow himself to be swiftboated -- not that I'm surprised. All he's done is run one of the most effective campaigns and score maybe the biggest primary upset in American history. It wasn't that long ago that his opponents were questioning his toughness, saying he couldn't take a punch. I'm not seeing that anymore. Yay!
In my case it probably doesn't matter. I voted for Mondale, Dukakis, and Kerry. Apparently, for me, all a presidential candidate has needed so far is a D with their name.

Why? Because he beat HRC? Well, she was hamstrung by her completely erratic husband and her completely cynical approach to her "message."*
*here's where you accuse me of sexism.
Not sure who you are addressing, but I'll assume it's me and ask why you'd expect me to accuse you of sexism?
I distinctly remember Hillary being considered "inevitable" and being 20-30 points ahead of Obama, who was running a poor third in all the polls as recently as Christmas time. I cannot think of a bigger primary upset in modern times.
No. Tess. Any male who doesn't like HRC is sexist. Obama rolled the Clintons' up and smoked them. I pray to Cthulu that this is the last we see of them, though I am sure they are grooming lil Chelsea for a stab at some safe Democratic seat in NY.

It was a joke!!!! Remember Obama made an unfortunate remark about bitter and guns in reference to Pennsylvania, which is where he made the statement.
All during the primary in Pennsylvania there was the Hillary and Rocky the fighter theme that people in Pennsylvania liked. They liked the concept of "tough."

It is a line from the movie "Untouchables" with Kevin Costner and Sean Connery.

(And given some not-so-indirect connections to actual Chicago mobsters, I don't know that I'd be too fast & loose with The Untouchables imagery. But I know that's just me.)

Yep, that's just you.
And God knows you're so salient to my life that I couldn't get through a weekend without knowing your opinion on just about everything.

Betty, I don't think talking about knives and guns is going to win too many people over to Obama.
I would intuit that this is exactly the wrong message for Obama to be sending out to the voters.

You are right. He has not won me over.
Given that your candidate has encouraged her supporters to get behind Obama, what will he need to do to win you over?

Heh, he hasn't won me over either.

Good rhetoric. The trick is putting it in practice. He's gotta know the slime will be flying at him this fall.

I'd rather be cycling.

Yes,
It was a joke.
A joke with a point.
He's a bare-knuckled brawler of a politician, and a peace-happy transcendent! He's a floor wax and a dessert topping!

The GOP slime campaign is the perfect prescription for the TN DLCers it seems. Link...
