I noted a couple of things -
I noted a couple of things - (1) the game was relatively penalty-free (a couple of late hits aside), and (2) the players on both teams were executing their own game plan, refusing to knuckle under to their opponent. (I loved how Manning kept trying to goad the Saints into biting on his oddly timed snap counts, and he never could get them to jump offsides. Too bad his own offensive line didn't always cooperate, and got dinged a couple of times for false starts.) It was very much a professional, up-tempo, and controlled game. In the end, the breaks just started falling for N.O. - and they took the bigger risks. Can't tell you how much I loved seeing the "go for it" red zone call in the 2nd.
So, from where I sat... on the field, not so much of an upset.
In the world of sports punditry, it was much more of an upset.
I called it.
I predicted the Saints would win and that it wouldn't be all that close but I was pulling for the Colts. I did think the Saints would just beat the Colts rather than there being one play with a 14 point swing. There were enough surprises to make it entertaining and those nice drunken people on Bourbon Street seem to be happy.
Way to go, Payton!
I especially relished the fact that the only turnover was when Manning's pass was intercepted for a 70-something-yard touchdown for the Saints.
Very sweet.
Perhaps Young Godhead has tarnished his halo just a bit.
Nah. The receiver missed the
Nah. The receiver missed the route and Porter jumped the route because he anticipated the Manning's call. It was small mistake that was capitalized upon by an excellent defensive play. It's one step off from a "tipped" ball interception in my opinion.
There's a reason that the
There's a reason that the Saints led the league in takeaways.
That onside kick was one of the best superbowl moments ever!
It transformed the psychology of the game.
Even if you are a die-hard Peytonist you have to appreciate this one awesome call by the Saints.
Incidentally, if you are a real Vols fan you should have been rooting for the Saints, who had more former Vols on the field last night.
I was all for the Saints due to family and friends down there and the symbolism of a win for New Orleans. Tom Benson (owner of the Saints) said it best: "New Orleans is Back!"
Also, what has happened to the Superbowl? It used to be a pretty boring game, but now more often than not its a nail-biter.
Yes, the onside kick was the
Yes, the onside kick was the game changer.
I think their field goal kicker ought to get some credit, too, for making some awesome, long field goals to keep them in it until the offense settled down and got it dialed in.
Peytonist
Sugar, while I am a Manning fan, being a Vol supporter, I am a Louisianan also for the time being. Saints fan from here to there. Bear in mind there was a Peyton on both sides of the field last night and the Sean one did a heckofa job too. Has there ever been an onside kick to start a half?
Whodat says the Saints can't go back to back?
I just left knoxnews.com web
I just left knoxnews.com web site and the only reference to the super bowl game was the commercials, not one reference to the actual football game. Former Vols Meacham, Greer and Mitchell were on the winning team. One would think that knownews.com would at least mention that fact, and give a recap of the game. What is the problem?
